PA Tax Credit

It may sound too good to be true, but a portion of one’s tax dollars can be redirected to the school of their choice in Pennsylvania.

The following tax redirected options are state-approved programs that ultimately can assist families with needed monies to send their children to a school like Lancaster County Christian School. Funds from these programs make up approximately 15% of the budget and provide scholarships to many families who otherwise would not be able to attend LCCS.

EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit)

The private school movement in PA is a significant lobbying group, and legislatures know that both public and private schools can benefit from EITC. Our government leaders realize that quality education, to some extent, can be advanced by proper funding.

The scholarship funds for this program come from businesses that recognize the value of quality Christian education. The business can redirect up to 90% of their annual state taxes for a two year commitment and 75% for a one year commitment to a given school.

Even if you do not own a business, you can still participate in this program! Through Special Purpose Entity (SPE, see below), an individual may redirect a large part of his or her taxes to LCCS if you have a tax liability of $3,500.

OSTC (Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit)

Students who are attending a school that is considered underperforming by the state can transfer out and choose a school such as Lancaster County Christian School. Scholarship monies will be made available to families who wish to choose a school like LCCS but cannot afford the full tuition.

The funding for this scholarship program is from the businesses that participate in EITC.

SPE (Special Purpose Entity)

Since 2012, the SPE tax credit program allows individuals to redirect their tax dollars, as long as they owe at least $3,500 in state taxes, to Christian schools. SPE offers a one- or two-year commitment similar to that stated above in the EITC section.

This tax option opportunity requires a participant to sign what is called a “joinder agreement” with a state approved LLC, such as is offered by the Association of Christian Schools International, through their “Children’s Tuition-Aid Fund.” ACSI is a pass-through organization that directs SPE scholarship monies to schools like LCCS.
